Types of Septic Systems We Install

We specialise in two main types of septic systems: anaerobic and aerobic.

Anaerobic Systems

We use 3100L Polymaster poly tanks, which are lightweight, durable, and ideal for properties with tight access.
These systems require minimal maintenance and are typically pumped out every five years.
Anaerobic systems are a great choice for rural or semi-rural areas where power supply may be limited and ongoing servicing isn’t ideal.

Aerobic Systems

For aerobic systems, we install Ozzikleen poly tanks, which use oxygen to break down waste more quickly.
These systems are more advanced and suitable for properties where higher treatment levels are required, such as near watercourses.
Aerobic systems need to be serviced quarterly to remain compliant. (Please note: BHM Plumbing does not currently offer quarterly servicing for aerobic systems but we can recommend local service providers.)

Flush Smart
Only flush pee, poo, and toilet paper. Avoid wipes, food waste, and other non-biodegradable items.
Service Regularly
Pump anaerobic tanks every 5 years and service aerobic systems every 3 months to maintain efficiency.
Protect & Conserve
Avoid overloading with water, keep stormwater out, and don’t build or plant over the system.

We take care of every aspect of your septic tank installation, including: Site assessment and system selection, coordination of earthworks and electrical works (if required), removal and disposal of existing tanks (if required), supply, delivery, and connection of the new tank and final commissioning to ensure everything is working as it should.

Common Issues & Prevention
One of the most common problems with septic systems is a blockage at the inlet baffle. This is often caused by poor soil compaction during installation, which leads to sagging pipes. Our experienced team ensures every installation is done properly to help prevent these issues. If a blockage does occur, it can usually be cleared by using a stick plunger through the inlet inspection opening. Call us if you suspect your existing septic system is blocked.
